Prepare yourself for Winter Break with CapMetro
The holidays are fast-approaching, the most stress-inducing, wonderful time of the year. If you’re not ready, it’ll chew you up and spit you out faster than your Grandma can pinch your cheeks and ask when you’re getting married. So, make sure your mind, and body, are ready this year with our Austin holiday training tips.
1. Last-Minute Shopping at the Domain
Did you forget to plan ahead again? No worries, hop over to the Domain to grab a flannel for Dad or a new book for Mom. Or, you know, just grab yourself a couple pairs of sweatpants in preparation for the eminent holiday gorging. Goodbye summer body, hello gravy!
Route: MetroRapid 803
2. Zilker Holiday Tree
Heading home for the holidays means you’re in for lots of food, love, and holiday cheer. And probably noise. Between dinner table conversations that seem to never end, kid cousins running around, and movie specials playing on repeat, you’ll be hard-pressed to find some peace and quiet. So, head to Zilker Park to stare at the twinkling lights and bask in the silence, for a quiet retreat is like being able to breathe through your nose - you don’t know how good it is until it’s taken away from you.
Route: MetroBus 30
3. Live, Loud Music Downtown
Absorbing silence and serenity like an overzealous squirrel at the Planters factory not really your thing? Then perhaps you should take the opposite approach and condition yourself for the deafening roar of the holidays with some good, old-fashioned blaring music. Whether it’s Mariah Carey or Adam Sandler, you can only take so much holiday music, so you’ll need practice in tuning it out.
Route: Republic Square, MetroRapid 801 and 803
4. Date Night at The Nutcracker
Get out of the cold and find yourself a cozy seat next to a special someone. Let the stresses of finals flow from your mind and take some time to admire the talent of Ballet Austin in The Nutcracker at the Long Center. Nothing says holiday cheer like The Sugar Plum Fairy.
Route: MetroRapid 803 and MetroBus 30, MetroRapid 801, MetroBus 5
5. Hot Chocolate By the Lake
After being away at school, your family is going to expect to see positive growth in who you are as a person, and, unfortunately, perfected sleeping abilities aren’t going to cut it. So, show them you’re a cultured intellectual now with a refined palate - for hot chocolate. Grab some friends and hit a bunch of coffee shops. Sample their hot cocoas. Make a Tumblr about it. Who lacks class now, Aunt Susan?!
Route: MetroBus 18
