10 Free Cap Metro Adventures
Nothing connects students to Austin better than Cap Metro, the bus and rail system FREE for all UT students. Cap Metro has made it easier than ever to swipe with a valid UT ID and ride by setting up capmetro.org/ut and developing a ride app.
Riding the bus for free is easy…
UT Austin serves as a transportation hub, and so it’s easy and convenient to go on adventures (and errands) all over town. Here are ten great single-bus-trip locations you should explore:
1. Mueller HEB
The new Mueller H-E-B, with its high ceilings, natural light, and attached café, will convince you to expand your culinary horizons. Just hop on Route 10 (along San Jacinto or Dean Keeton) and you’re there in no time.
2. Little Longhorn Saloon
MetroRapid 803 can connect you to all kinds of spots up and down Lamar and Burnet, but it can also take you back in time. Time travel into Little Longhorn Saloon to get your two-step at this historic bar.
3. Austin Karaoke
MetroRapid 801 will have you singing its praises when you take it straight to a private karaoke party at Austin Karaoke. With its regular schedules, your friends will have no excuse to miss your best attempts at Elton John hits.
4. (Everywhere) Downtown
As UT grad Matthew McConaughey said in True Detective’s truly great first season, "Time is a flat circle." You can get a bus downtown anytime you want. Both the Night Owl and the E-bus can get you down to any number of downtown hang outs.
5. Deep Eddy Pool
Deep Eddy is the pool we don’t tell tourists about. Dip in the same cool spring water as Barton Springs with the confidence of a local. It’s just a quick trip on either Route 18 or Route 663.
6. Burnet thrifting
Campus-close thrift stores are great, but there are some great spots further afield. Take Route 3 to stop by Second Time Around or Next to New.
7. The Domain
When second-hand clothes don’t cut it, go high-end with a trip up to the Domain. Hop on the MetroRapid 803 and you’re there!
8. Mozart's Coffee Roasters
Coffee always tastes better on a lakeside. Take Route 18 westward to get to this large and popular coffee shop. Bring your schoolwork and prepare yourself for the most scenic study session you've ever had!
10. Everywhere Else
Fly anywhere in the world with an assist from Cap Metro! The Route 20 operates every 15 minutes and will take you right from DKR Stadium to the fancy blue neon guitar bus stop on the lower level of ABIA.
