On the Longhorns’ first offensive series last weekend against Oklahoma, they opened with a five wide receiver set and I thought to myself, “OK, Greg Davis is finally going to put Garrett Gilbert’s supposedly rocket-power arm in the spotlight.”
Wanted: a go-to offensive player with killer separation speed, quick hands, smart route-running abilities who likes to wear burnt orange. If discovered, please call Texas head coach Mack Brown as he’s been searching up and down his depth chart weekly in search of a player who has these qualities.
The Longhorns’ opponent this past weekend wore burnt orange and white, not red. Texas had nine penalties for 81 yards and that is what essentially propelled Oklahoma to its 28-20 win at the 105th Red River Rivalry.
One of defensive coordinator Will Muschamp’s biggest concerns heading into this season is the inexperience inside at defensive tackle. Junior Kheeston Randall, who had 23 tackles and two sacks last year, is the only veteran.
