UTPD investigating suspicious package near Sid Richardson Hall

Update 11 a.m.: The suspicious item found near Sid Richardson Hall has been deemed not to be a threat by UTPD, according to a campus-wide email alert send to students. The item was removed by the Austin Police Department, and officers have cleared the area.

Update: 10:40 a.m.: No evacuations or disruptions to campus activity are occurring, according to a tweet from UTPD. UTPD also said in the tweet that its K-9 unit has cleared the item as safe, but that the investigation is ongoing.

Sid Richardson Hall is on the east side of campus, near the LBJ Library.

10:15 a.m.: The UT Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious package found near Sid Richardson Hall. Students and staff are advised to avoid the area, according to a campus emergency alert email.
